Words Of Wisdom From 8 World-Class Media Influencers

Words of Wisdom From 8 World-Class Publishing Media Influencers

2020 has been a year like no other.

Life as we once knew it has been completely turned upside down and every single person around the globe has been affected in some way or another.

The world of media has been a fantastic way to share positive news and connect with people during this time.

I recently had the opportunity to interview 8 world-class media influencers and hear their words of wisdom.

Here’s what they had to say.

Annie KoshyAnnie Koshy – Author, Coach, Photographer and Media Personality

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

“Giving voice to the voiceless through thought leadership, photography, media, and the arts.”

My journey to being the model, host, and media personality was not something that I ever imagined or set out to do in my career. My thoughts were pipe dreams and figments of my overzealous imagination until I manifested them into becoming a reality.

Change is always difficult, and it is especially difficult when it is not something that was in the grand scheme of plans. For someone who had lived a very sheltered life, I found myself moving into an apartment with myself as a roommate after leaving a long-term relationship.

I had to reacquaint myself with who I was, break down years of insecurity and traditions in order to metamorphose into who I was meant to be. For the first time, I started living today, as the person I wished to be tomorrow. I started to emerge from the cocoon I had hidden in.

In 2018, I became a published model with one of the city’s premier modeling agencies, garnering mainstream attention through my commercial work. Today, I’m recognized as a multi-talented media and events personality, trained global keynote speaker, and emcee.

Wearing the hat of a teacher for several years while consistently acquiring up to date knowledge as an educationalist has always fascinated me. Books were an escape from my strict upbringing and an opportunity to see places and learn of people that I never imagined I’d experience in real life.

My book, How to Be Your Badass Self: A Guide to Using Your Inner Energy for Brand Success, lays out the steps to turn your mindset and focus on building your brand and growing your business or career. Now, through my own process, I’m able to walk you through the process and give you the ideas you need to determine your strengths, create a call to action, and build relationships with clients.

Can you share a word of wisdom and or an educational tip for our readers?

Since your thoughts shape your action, what you are dwelling on and allowing into your mind is going to fertilize your thoughts in a positive or negative way. The only way to change your actions is to change what you think and how you plan your actions based on those thoughts.

Dwelling in the past, worrying about what was already done, and how it can shape your actions for the present, will leave you feeling stuck and not able to fully realize your purpose. My tip here is to help you recognize how powerful your thoughts are and decide to fertilize them with positive energy. Time and again, your thoughts will determine your actions. Learn from the past, but don’t live there. Don’t keep your thoughts trapped. Instead, claim the future by focusing on living in the moment and allowing your thoughts to be nurtured by positive energy.

When we choose a specific action or reaction, then we are sending off energy. Your one positive interaction can impact so many other interactions throughout the day. That becomes the power of mind over matter, the power of mind over negativity, and the ability to harness your power to create change in others. It helps you to fuel change in yourself and others.

What are the biggest problems and challenges that are being faced by those you are leading, teaching, mentoring?

When leading and mentoring, I try to focus on the energy I am giving and receiving. Your vibe is like a magnet. It will attract more of the same.

Well, we all vibe at a certain level of energy. You are giving energy signals and that energy is so important to harnessing the power of your mind. Along the way, you develop an understanding of what your personal inner frequency is and how to nurture it.

You start to recognize when your frequency is off and what you need to do in order to bring it back up to where it needs to be to vibe at a positive energy level. This process goes back to controlling your emotions and understanding your triggers. Knowing your inner frequency is a key part in reaching your mental and emotional balance, falling in line with knowing and understanding your emotional responses.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry (Social Media Marketing)?

In an age where everyone is using social media to market themselves, their products, and their services, we are constantly inundated with content, both relevant and irrelevant. Having your own impactful personal brand puts the spotlight on you in a sea of mediocrity. It showcases your strengths, garnering interest, and attention to your business in a positive manner.

Building a personal brand creates credibility, authenticity, and helps garner trust in your interactions, both personally and professionally. Establishing credibility in any given field is essential if you want clients to believe in you and your services. Having a personal brand that is consistent to your goals and services helps build that trust, which is essential for the growth of any business. Done correctly, consistently and with authenticity, social media is a powerful tool to be able to build customer loyalty and your brand presence.

Dawn BatesDawn Bates – International Bestselling Author, Author Coach and Strategist, Publisher, Leadership Coach and Molecule Shaking Speaker

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I am an international bestselling author, author coach, strategist, ghost writer, online entrepreneur, and specialize in developing step change strategies and global visions, underpinned with powerful leadership and profound truths.

I write for various magazines, and when not sailing around the world on yachts, I appear on various media channels highlighting and discussing important subjects in today’s society. My first trilogy ‘The Trilogy of Life Itself’ is powerful, as is my current series of nine books ‘The Sacral Series’.

Both compilations bring together the multi-faceted aspects of the world we live in and take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, whilst delivering mic dropping inspiration, motivation, and awakening.  Both bodies of work capture life around the world in all its rawness.

My expertise lies in making you rethink your life, whilst harnessing the deepest freedom of all: your own truth. I am an authority on leading others to create exceptional results by igniting the passions and fire deep within and shifting them from fear, imposter syndrome, and self-doubt to living life where they are free to speak and live powerfully.

Can you share a word of wisdom or an educational tip for our readers?

“Always create before you consume.” When you wake up in the morning, make your bed, do your daily movement practice/exercise, and then write. Do not look at your phone, your emails, your social media, just write tapping into what I call your ‘Conscious Unconscious Creation’. You’ll be clearer, faster, and purified in your writing.

What are the biggest problems and challenges that your clients face?

Processing the lack of integrity of those in their personal space and tribe when it comes to purchasing their books. Many receive a lot of encouragement or opinions when they are in the writing and publishing process, but when the time comes for those who have offered an opinion or made the promise to buy, do not buy, it still affects them – even if they have been in business for years selling high ticket priced products. In fact, it is sometimes more confusing for them because they can easily sell a programme in the $1000’s but when people don’t buy a book of say $35, they take it more to heart.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry?

Asking friends and family, BETA readers for feedback. This is something I advise against as it creates delay, uncertainty and an element of people-pleasing, trying to make the manuscript ‘perfect’ and liked by everyone. It is better to work directly with a professional proofreader and editor.

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I am a visionary multi-potentialite with a passion for fulfilling mine and others’ dreams. My work is based in neuroscience, quantum physics, a passion for well-being and a mission to reveal to the world the magic of basing their life on their genius and super-powers.

I created House of Preeminence to support female change-makers (and the men who uphold them) to thrive whatever the global circumstances.

What words of wisdom or educational tips could you share with our readers?

We are all coded for greatness. I believe that when we use our unique talents combined with our passionate values and share them with the world through what gives us joy, we hold the very power of evolution in our hands.

Life and our results reflect our point of focus, not our wish-list.

Dream-fulfilment comes down to three things: 1. That we believe that anything is possible. 2.  That we believe in ourselves. 3. That we live in daily expectation of our dream, whilst taking massive action. Not only “The force is with you” but “The force ‘is’ you!”

Creating and living the reality we truly desire is not something to struggle and strive in the future, but to make a daily habit.

What are the biggest problems and challenge that your clients face?

The challenge for heart-led entrepreneurs is they lead with their product (their ‘what’ and ‘how’) before knowing who they truly are and their purpose or ‘why’.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry?

When entrepreneurs are disconnected from their ‘who’ and ‘why’, their messaging and image will always be slightly ‘off’ and therefore, their results limited.

Chalil, MD, MBA, FACHE – Global Healthcare Executive, Author, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I am an author of several scientific and research papers in international publications, the Chairman of the Complex Health Systems Advisory Board, H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University in Florida and a member of Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) Executive Leadership Council.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, I am board certified in healthcare management. I have been awarded a Fellowship by the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations.

I am an expert in U.S. healthcare policy and a strong advocate for patient-centered care. With over two decades of experience working in the U.S. healthcare system, I discuss healthcare delivery challenges, including providing quality, affordable patient care to all, and alternate templates for health insurance in my new book Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare.

Can you share a word of wisdom and or an educational tip for our readers?

Work hard, respect your teachers, and never stop learning.

What are the biggest problems and challenges that are being faced by those you are leading, teaching, mentoring?

The COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest disruption in the world in the past 100 years, and it has impacted communities worldwide. The percentage of the global population impacted by COVID-19 exceeded even World War II. Governments all over the world are stumped and realize that with all the resources, including manpower, money, weapons, technology, and their preparedness for disaster management at their command, they are still powerless and are unable to manage or control the situation. While the world scrambles to find a successful vaccine, the glaring shortcomings in healthcare capacities and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) are further highlighted. Even at the international level, any amount of cooperation and collaboration cannot help to find good solutions.

As a result, the economies around the world are being decimated, and the world is experiencing a catastrophic recession-like situation, which is hurtling towards a point that will be worse than the last great Depression of 1929. Unemployment has skyrocketed all over the world. This has led to civil unrest in a lot of places. This is an unprecedented situation that no world leader was prepared for.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry (Medical/Media)?

The global COVID-19 pandemic made apparent that the existing public policy and current healthcare systems are ill-prepared to deal with the global challenges of providing quality and affordable healthcare; still, a non-partisan solution to healthcare reform has yet to land on the table.

Until now.

In our book, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare, my colleague Ambassador Pradeep K. Kapur and I present SafetyNet, a healthcare-for-all policy, based on decades of experience in public policy and healthcare management, that challenges the world to have the political consensus to create meaningful change for all—both in the United States and worldwide.

Endorsed by policymakers, thought leaders, Ambassadors worldwide, leading healthcare professionals, and best-selling authors, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic asks the questions: what if it’s not reform, we need, but instead a revolution? What if we reimagined a healthcare system with patients, not big pharma and insurance companies, in the driver’s seat?

Keith Leon S - CEO, Leon Smith Publishing Keith Leon S.  – CEO, Leon Smith Publishing

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I am a multiple award-winning bestselling author and co-owner of a book publishing company. My passions are supporting entrepreneurs, coaches, and change makers to get their message out to the world with a book that represents their mission and message.

My wife and I are co-owners and have been in business for just short of 17 years. Our claim to fame is creating a process by which you can have a book that represents you without having to write a single word. Show up to 7 phone calls, let us guide you, and you speak your book. We take it from there.

What words of wisdom or educational tips could you share with our readers?

Mentors who have already achieved what you would like to achieve are invaluable. I owe all my success to my mentors. They have saved me time and money and kept me from making costly mistakes they had already made. In addition, they became great friends that I can count on any time I feel out of sorts or need an ear to bend. Additionally, I’d like to share what one of my mentors told me when I was a teen. He said, “If you find a job doing something that you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”

What are the biggest problems and challenges that your clients face?

No longer is the slick salesman doing well. The current consumer is in touch with how people make them feel, as opposed to fancy words and slick ads. The more vulnerable and transparent you are, or your company message is, the better you will fair. Trust must be established. A heart-centered approach is much preferred to flash and word perfection.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry?

There are a lot of people pretending to be publishers, when indeed they are glorified printers.

When you decide to write a book, make sure that the company you hire to support you has your best interest in mind. Make sure they have a team of professionals that will represent you with professionalism.

Look at their covers and the layouts inside their book.

Are they attractive?

Does the cover tell a story?

Does it have an endorsement quote on the front cover?

Trust your first instinct, as your first instinct is always right.

If something doesn’t feel right as you look at their books, move on to the next publisher you want to contact.

Michelle Watson - Founder of Breakfree Forever Consultancy Ltd, Co-founder of Your Book & Beyond, Business Accelerator Coach and Bestselling AuthorMichelle Watson – Founder of Breakfree Forever Consultancy Ltd, Co-founder of Your Book & Beyond, Business Accelerator Coach and Bestselling Author

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I serve Entrepreneurs and Business Start-ups wanting to share their stories and expertise with the world, so they can make an impact, increase their business, and leave a legacy behind.

They struggle to be the expert in their field, having a story to share and business ideas but unsure of where or how to start. After having survived domestic abuse, depression, and financial debts, I was able to turn my pain into a passion and become an authority in my field.

What words of wisdom or educational tips could you share with our readers?

Life is filled with challenges; whether it’s in your personal or business life. Here’s the thing though, you cannot go back and tear out the pages of yesterday, you, however, can decide what will be written in the next chapter of your book called life.

What are the biggest problems and challenges that your clients face?

One of the challenges my potential clients face is knowing how to write a book they can use as a marketing tool to position themselves in front of their ideal customers, as the foremost AUTHORITY in their field.

Like everything in life, once they know the how, then the process becomes quick, simple, and enjoyable.

Another problem my clients face on a regular basis is running a business that doesn’t sell.

This is often due to:

  • The lack of clarity around their clients.
  • How their offer aligns with their client’s problems.
  • And attempting to serve everyone without clear direction.

Clarity is critical when communicating with your clients as it forms the pathway for their transformation from Point A to Point B.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry?

Don’t enter into the sea of ‘sameness’ creating content that’s not in alignment with your message, brand, or business as this has no money-making strategy.

Ravinder (Ravi) Pal Singh - Engineer, Technologist, Global Speaker, Rescue Pilot and Investor

Ravinder (Ravi) Pal Singh, Engineer, Technologist, Global Speaker, Rescue Pilot and Investor

Can you share a little about yourself and your business?

I am a Harvard Alumni, a multi-award-winning Technologist, Rescue Pilot, and Investor with over 100 global recognitions and several patents to my credit.

My body of work, mostly the first in the world, is making a difference within acute constraints of culture and cash, via commodity technology that can be seen and felt in day-to-day life. I have been acknowledged as one of the world’s top 10 Robotics Designers, one of the world’s top 25 Chief Innovation Officers, and considered number one in Asia for AI.

As a global speaker, I have delivered hundreds of lectures and papers. Over this last year, my body of work and thinking has been shared in over fifty renowned journals and conferences all across Asia, Europe, the USA, and Africa.

I am an advisor to a board of nine enterprises where incubation and differentiation is a core necessity and challenge. I sit on the advisory council of three global research firms where I contribute to predicting practical future automation use cases and respective technologies. As an avid inventor, I hold, in a personal capacity, over 18 technology patents.

Over the last decade as an angel investor, I have mentored and managed over sixty successes and failures, with a net portfolio gain of 22X ROI across India, USA, Singapore, Scotland, Mexico, and Africa.

I am an avid child rights activist with the desire to protect and defend the rights of children through advocacy for appropriate laws, policies, and practices. My ability to balance all that I do and share with the world comes from my inner balance and years spent as an advanced practitioner of yoga. Trained as a pilot, I have served various international agencies in the capacity of emergency response, in expeditions ranging from COVID-19 to floods to earthquakes. As a trained mountaineer, I have climbed four of the world’s highest mountain summits successfully.

Can you share a word of wisdom and or an educational tip for our readers?

“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”

Loud speeches, a profusion of words, and possessing skillfulness in expounding scriptures are merely for the enjoyment of the learned. They do not however lead to liberation. Amongst the contributory factors for liberation, devotion stands supreme, and it is in the search for one’s own true nature, that you begin to understand what is meant by devotion.

With regard to wisdom for corporate leaders, any great leader will be able to wear an effective mantle of leadership if they weigh in on the following four decision-making components – privacy versus responsibility, localisation versus globalisation, a corporate governance structure versus the real forensics of corruption and morality versus modernization.

In terms of wisdom for those who live in cities, it is certain that human perseverance will fix the current dance of death and suffering, we are all experiencing, it is just a matter of time. With the above certainty, some uncertain truths will emerge.

Firstly, the cost of living should not come at the price of one’s lifestyle. The intent for compassion must translate into actual actions by everyone both everywhere and consistently, every day. The disparity and imbalance that takes resources away from most people to live a basic life, so that a minority can afford an expensive (lavish) lifestyle, is no longer sustainable. Compassion should be inclusive towards nature and the creatures we share this planet with.

Till now, the world has been driven by the collaboration of conflict and/or economics, that should change towards collaboration to survive with health as a priority. Healthcare infrastructures across countries need to be revisited and global uniformity must be established.  The asymptomatic nature of the #Covid19 virus is ensuring that healthcare can no longer be separated from mainstream economics and world trade; in fact, it should be a central driver.

Finally, how we design our lives – the places we live, work, and interact should all change. The glorification of creating megacities is no more sustainable. There is still merit in nonpolitical Gandhian theories based on:

  1. a) De-centralization and Micro Markets
  2. b) Rural development (ideal cluster of villages)
  3. c) Self-sufficiency while living harmoniously with nature
  4. d) Greater equity or distributive justice via creating institutions than just (only) profit-driven businesses

What are the biggest problems and challenges that are being faced by those you are helping?

What fuels this passion is a soul-deep desire to live life with authentic passion.

As a volunteer or rescue worker, one must be willing to serve unconditionally without ego. Whether it is in the capacity of neonatal nurse, pilot, driver, janitor, or as a delivery person. The role can otherwise be that of a communications engineer, plumber, or electrician. All the above can be done if one is willing to sit with another person and pour into their humanity so that their soul is nourished, even if momentarily. Be disciplined and fearless with a mindset to serve everyone in need.

Life for all of us will be very different after COVID-19. We will either survive with scars that will remain forever or stories of resilience.

Some of the bravest unknown and unsung heroes were those found in destinations across South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The simple everyday individuals we come across in life seeking out their daily existence amidst the chaos – Friends, Taxi Drivers, Journalists, Janitors, Nurses, Cabin Crew, and other wanderlust travelers.

There are many stories of resilience over the course of the last eight months that give us the hope that life hasn’t become an impersonal mathematical number or statistic for a national disaster recovery procedure but rather an anthology of human kindness, hope, love, and courage that twinkle like stars in our galaxy.

What is the biggest pitfall to be aware of for people interested in your industry (Technology/Innovation/Engineering)?

As a CEO, one must learn fast and reflect continuously to strategize in their heads and act swiftly. CIOs need to lead think-tank components that will fuel a new future operating model.

Intelligent companies will change their structures, flatten their decision-making processes, and recognize a hard truth that only unbiased and merit-based organizations will survive and achieve greatness in this ‘selection of the fittest’ scenario. In the last decade, we have been witness to a change in corporate culture, and in order to survive and thrive organizations need to have high performance and be outcome-driven.

Finally, with technology being the driver and not only an enabler, CEOs with myopic thinking and lackadaisical leadership skills will struggle to lead their respective organizations. Any reluctant CIOs, who are non-technologists and who lack intrapreneurship will not survive in great companies.

Having spent two decades training and working with Gurus in the business world, this has allowed me to deliver world-class speaking and business skills to position me as an expert. One of my sports coaches corrected me when I did not step up to the mark and told me “Successful People have Successful habits Sheena”.

Right now, we see accidental speakers who have no structure or formula. It’s key that you can transform information into powerful compelling content to deliver and design winning presentations. Different speaking stages require you to make a strong connection to every audience member achieving peak performance in your public speaking and presentation skills will mean the difference between winning and losing new clients and contracts.

What are some of the biggest problems and challenges your clients face?

The biggest challenge Entrepreneurs and Executives face that holds them back in the competitive arena is that they don’t know what they don’t know. Right now, they don’t have design thinking personally or professionally and are still doing out of date old-world thinking which leaves them out of the competitive market. A design thinking approach puts your customer at the heart of your problem-solving solutions. You must ask yourself what people really want from my service, then deliver the experience.

In 2021, “Dare to be Different”, look at redesigning you and your services, with innovation and creativity to become commercially viable in our futurist economy. Taking action is the first step. Ask yourself, do I have Mastery skills?  Do I have a Signature business model? Do I have a performance coach?

Can you share a Pitfall for C-suite CEO and Business Professionals to look out for?

“A misconception is I can manage without planning and training.”

Working with CEOs and leaders, they can be new in post, or established in companies but find the dynamic economy difficult to figure things out, niche market, audience, no plan or strategy. No brand image. They don’t think business mastery and speaking are viable skills, Think again. You might not be speaking this week or next week but delivering your business message needs to be a key priority to position you. Having the skills to stand up and communicate your message effectively is a vital skill that companies demand their key personnel possess.

When teaching transformational experiences as a Global Trainer and Coach I think of the given circumstances and design bespoke programs to position my clients, to be an authority, to lead your industry and to have the competitive edge to become the go-to company and employer of choice

You are not being judged: the value of what you bring to the business is being judged so you must position you as the expert to lead the field.
