World Class Change Makers Share Tips To Create Their Vision Using The Mind

As we near the end of 2023, many of us have had to find inner strength to achieve our visions. Harnessing the power of the mind is needed more than ever to support a positive future.

I have compiled this list of world-class change makers to share their expertise and inspire those going through difficult times.

Jack Canfield – America’s #1 Success Coach

Jack Canfield is a bestselling author, professional speaker, trainer, and entrepreneur.  He is the founder and CEO of the Canfield Training Group.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Well, first, that it’s possible. People need to know that you can do it.

Second, it’s necessary if you want to be more successful. In other words, your mindset is like a thermostat that controls the level of your success, the level of your intimacy, and the level of your health, just like the thermostat in your house controls the temperature.

And third, it takes conscious effort, sometimes called work, and many people don’t put in that time or don’t know how to do it. I’m glad that you’re helping people figure that out. A study was done at Stanford a number of years ago where they compared aptitude to attitude. What they found was that 8% or less of success was related to your aptitude, meaning your talents, your skills, and your knowledge, whilst 92% came from attitude.

There’s a wonderful quote from Sarah Blakely, the self-made billionaire creator of Spanx, and she said..

“Mindset is the single most important thing you have as an entrepreneur. And then she said, work on it daily.”

That’s the key.

You need to have what I call disciplines of success, disciplines of mindset, using things like affirmations, self-talk reminders, putting post-its on the wall, and having your vision board.

I have this technique I use called cancel.

I have these little postits around my house. There’s nothing written on them, just a little, tiny three by two post-it notes. And every time I walk by one, I have to ask myself, what am I thinking? And if I’m having a negative thought, I say cancel, and then I replace it with a positive thought. I did that twice yesterday, and here I am.

I teach a formula called E plus R equals O.

There’s an Event in your life. You have a Response, which can be a thought, an image, or a behavior, and then you get an Outcome.

I believe everything that happens in the universe is for me.

It’s not happening to me. I

t’s happening for me now.

I didn’t always believe that, but as I’ve gotten older, I realize that everything that happens is for me now with that lens.

One of my favorite quotes is from Muhammad Ali. He said…

“Impossible is a big word thrown around by small people who find it easier to live in a world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.”

Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion.

And so, we have to realize that we have the ability to change our thoughts. And it does take repetition.

Research shows that it takes about 30 days to change a habit or a thought.

If you want to change and create a new belief or attitude, you have to do it for 30 days without missing a day. For many people, that’s difficult and challenging, but it requires that level of self-discipline if you want a more positive mindset.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Well, I think the biggest ones are limiting beliefs, which most of us are unaware we have. In other words, these are beliefs that were formed normally between the ages of two and seven years old.

  • I’m not smart.
  • I’m not athletic.
  • It’s not okay to make noise.
  • It’s not okay to ask for what I want.
  • Don’t be selfish.
  • Money doesn’t grow on trees and all that kind of stuff.

And once we make those limiting belief decisions in our childhood, we forget them.

We forget that we did that.

And then we go to make a phone call, we go to give a speech, we go to make an offer, we go to ask for something we want, and we hesitate.

We don’t do it.

Why?

Because something comes up that says it’s unsafe for me to do that.

There are other techniques to bring up those limiting beliefs into our conscious mind and then release them and replace them with something more empowering, uplifting, and truer, and then, basically, those beliefs are gone. The other thing is fear.

Most of us have fear.

Fear is based on those beliefs.

Fear results from going into the future in our minds and imagining a negative outcome. We can just as easily use our minds to go into the future and imagine a positive outcome.

But it’s a habit. So, we have all these habits of thought and behaviour that we’re unaware of. One of the examples I use a lot is that most people live in a town or city with anywhere from 100 to 1000 restaurants, depending on the city’s size.

And most people, if you talk to them, they go to the same five or six restaurants all the time. They order the same two or three meals, they have the same drink or the same kind of wine, whatever it is. Habits over and over and over that we do make an effort to break out of those habits, but we can do that.

All these people know how to be successful, have positive affirmations, visualize positive success, and so forth. One of the things he talks about, and a number of people do today when you read books on habits, is to link the new habit with the current behavior.

So, like, when I was working on doing 100 push-ups a day, I started able to do 15. That’s all I could do. And I wanted to work my way up to 100. But every time I went to the bathroom when I would come out, I would get down and do ten push-ups.

And so that was linking it to something I was already doing many times a day. What he suggests, which I love, is once you have your affirmation, like for your, I call it your breakthrough goal, your number one major thing you’re working on accomplishing right now in your life.

Every time you go through a doorway, you say your affirmation. So, you get up, you go into the bathroom, and say your affirmation. Coming out of the bathroom, you say your affirmation. Going to the kitchen, say your affirmation, coming back out, getting in your car, getting out of the car.

Well, that ends up doing it about 100 times a day. And so, you’re already going in and out of doors. So why not link what you want to do with something already done? And it really has a tremendous impact.

Repetition is key.

John Asaraf, one of my friends, created a repeating tape. He has all his affirmations on there, and then he goes for a run every morning, and all he does is listen to these affirmations for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how long he’s running.

It’s that repetition over time that really makes the difference. And I think many people don’t have the time, even if you just do two minutes. That’s better than no minutes.

And what I find is if you start with two, it starts to expand. I teach people to meditate, and originally ‘I don’t have time.’ Do you have two minutes? Yeah. So, they start to meditate for two minutes, and then all of a sudden, it turns into four, five, six, and eight. And so, you want to keep building that up again.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

Well, I think we talked about it already. In other words, we talked about mindset being the most important thing. The question everyone has is, how do you do it? And I don’t think it’s balancing negative and positive. I think it’s doing as much as possible to eliminate the negative and to replace it with the positive.

Something I do and teach, number one, is having a daily gratitude practice. If you’ve got a certain mindset, you’re looking for the behavioral change, and then you acknowledge it, and the same thing is true with gratitude. Everybody now is teaching the importance of gratitude. Gratitude actually precedes manifestation, achieving goals, and success.

The second thing we recommend is journaling daily for a minute or two about a positive experience you had in the previous 24 hours. So, you take time to really explore it, get deep into it, and remember it. When you remember positive events, that creates a positive attitude, raises your energy, and changes the biochemistry in your body.

Obviously, exercise is important because it changes your body changes your energy, and you can do affirmations, you can listen to positive podcasts like this one while you’re exercising, et cetera,

Doing a random act of kindness daily, for example, sending love to people daily, or sending appreciation emails, makes people feel good. And then finally meditation, really important. Then, like the self-hypnosis you talked about, or having other people work with you, reading something uplifting. Almost all the people I know who are successful they read for about an hour a day or listen to podcasts, watch TED talks, et cetera, but always positive information coming in. And they all say affirmations, and they all visualize.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

It is important to realize that a workable Mindset is the beginning step of having excellent results in life and relationships that work.

If you want to have a new result in life, don’t worry about trying to change your current result. Change your Mindset instead, and you will automatically have a new result.

A powerful Mindset that works to produce good results is to start by thinking “things are possible” rather than “this won’t work.”  Also, focus your thoughts on “what needs to happen to move this forward” rather than on why it isn’t working out. Be willing to discipline your mind intentionally.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Most people look to their past to determine what is possible for their future. This is a mistake and will stop your self-improvement. Your future is not something out there in front of you. A future exists as a ‘possibility’. That’s how a future exists. As a possibility, NOW. A possibility exists NOW, and where it exists is in language. What you say is important. Consider that you are speaking your future into existence. Rather than looking to your past to see what is possible, speak what you want and desire with no limitations.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

It is not a question of ‘balancing positive and negative thoughts.’ It is your ability to understand that you are not your thoughts. You are not your emotions. You are not your body. You are not your feelings. You are something bigger. Thoughts are automatic, whether they are positive or negative.

Get in touch with who you really are, and then be aware of your thoughts. As you are aware, then notice what ‘triggers’ those thoughts. The more awareness you have, the more you will begin to be able to disconnect from your thoughts and be more in touch with your own inner power and knowledge.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Mindset is a key to any success, as well as to our happiness and general well-being. We are not living in a vacuum, no matter which journey we begin, there are always three major forces that we face: counter force (obstacles, hurdles, challenges), an assisting force (opportunities, help, support), and a neutral force (people, situations that are still there, but they are not anyhow affecting you).

It’s up to you how to engage with these forces and to which give more power. Understanding that everything that is happening in your life has the only intention to help you grow, evolve, and follow your purpose, you can use challenges as a source of lessons and strength, opportunities as a chance for expansion and getting what you need, with your vision, goals, character turn neutral force to assisting one.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Self-improvement is not a destination, and it’s a lifetime journey that is very often accompanied by pain and discomfort. For some, it might be an obstacle to growth as their psyche is not ready to face the truth, accept all parts of Self (light and shadow), or acknowledge that they are not perfect – they might fall into the trap of ego and pride.

Conversely, when people take responsibility for their reality and understand that what they witness results from their decisions, choices, and actions, they tend to experience shame, guilt, and self-flagellation, being imprisoned by wretchedness. It’s important to realize that you are totally fine at any point in your life. Give yourself the necessary support and encouragement as you choose a beautiful journey of self-discovery and evolution.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

What we think today forms our tomorrow’s reality. Positive thoughts obviously contribute to creating a desired life. However, suppressing the negative ones won’t bring you further, as they are still in your subconscious. That actually might be a bottleneck in your manifestation process. Also, negative thoughts and emotions highlight what we need to work on in order to improve our mindset. The best way to balance: acknowledge the negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions you have. Instead of escaping, face them in order to release them. Sometimes, your mind would need to understand the root of them in order to be able to release them. In this case, professional support can be helpful. After “legalizing”  – bringing to a surface – all those codes, scenarios, and patterns that cause pain, anxiety, life issues, and repeating situations in life, the next step is to cultivate positive thoughts and feelings. Persistency is key.

Paulina XeniaPaulina Xenia – Manifestation Coach.

Paulina is a global manifestation coach known for her grounded and practical approach to manifestation, which has allowed thousands around the world to unlock their dream relationships. She is also the host of the top-rated podcast called Manifesting Simplified -Podcast.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Most people believe that your thoughts create your reality – it’s actually your subconscious beliefs that create your reality. People are told to repeat affirmations, but from my experience, affirmations don’t work if the underlying beliefs in the subconscious mind go against the affirmations. I learned that mindset work is inferior to subconscious reprogramming the hard way after affirming and thinking positively for months without seeing any improvements in my mindset or how I felt about myself.

I help anxious women who have been overgiving or self-sabotaging in their relationships and career women who can find that they have avoidant tendencies when it comes to relationships so they instead keep themselves busy with their careers to unlock their dream relationships. That is why, in my coaching, I use a specific style of subconscious programming to change the core beliefs so that they can get to the root quicker and unlock their desired reality…

The mind is a powerful creator, and what we believe about ourselves and our potential shapes our reality and our experiences. Understanding that the mind is very malleable, and the mind is just like a garden, where we consciously sow the seeds that we want to grow through what we dominantly focus on and weed out limiting beliefs that show up as self-doubt and fear, in order to manifest our vision faster.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

The women I work with often have a successful career and often don’t have enough time to have a vision for the future, which involves the partner, or then they’re fantasizing of the happily ever after but have no idea how to get there because their anxiety tends to get the the best of them and end up sabotaging the relationship. Challenges like your own mind trying to hold you back from changing the trajectory of your life, and making effort to keep you in your comfort zone, which shows up as fears and self-doubt. And no matter how successful you are, there will always be fears and doubts that you need to learn to navigate. Personally using hypnosis to release limiting beliefs holding me back and seeing myself already experiencing my future vision has helped me get my subconscious mind on board with my vision for the future, and thus it’s created less resistance to actually take the action and sail my ship towards the future vision. My work includes going into the subconscious mind and shifting the core beliefs in order to release resistance on the manifestation journey. This modern manifestation approach also helps overcome challenges more effortlessly and recognizing that challenges are not roadblocks, but simply stepping stones to manifesting your vision.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

From my own experience it’s useless to focus on changing one’s negative thoughts, as they are merely a by-product of one’s subconscious beliefs. The journey towards mindset mastery and manifesting your vision is about embracing both the light and shadow aspects of the mind. It’s not about eliminating negative thoughts entirely but about learning to dance with the duality. It’s like this dance where you have to learn to dance with the shadow, as it will always be there with you, while at the same time redirecting your focus towards the positive in order to manifest a desired reality. Embrace negative thoughts as catalysts for growth, understanding their power to highlight areas for improvement. Instead of believing the negative thoughts to be true, start questioning this inner dialogue. As a manifestation coach, I empower individuals to see negative thoughts like clouds in the sky, simply passing by, to be able to observe them without attaching any meaning – and to recognize them as fleeting and not as a sign of one’s own potential. A simple and powerful tool for calming the mind include nervous system regulation practices, for grounding into the present moment.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

We may not have control over some of the events in our life.  But the one thing no one can ever take away from you is your choice.  Their behavior can make it easy for you to choose something different then you inherently would, but sometimes, just sometimes, you have to stop yourself and think, what do I really want?  Because everything you do in your life is YOUR Choice.   A Positive Mindset is a choice.  Happiness is a choice.  So CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Everyone has been given the birthright and the potential to achieve great things, but they often need help to overcome their limiting beliefs and behaviors. The hard part? Believing they need help or that they are worthy of help, then trusting someone to help them.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

First become aware of their Emotional Power within. Every emotion has a reason and purpose.  Choose which reason and/or purpose you are willing to accept.  When negative or harmful thoughts arise, ask yourself what I am thinking or doing right now.  If it makes you unhappy or feel negative, stop doing it.  To do this you have to be open to and creating mental shifts, see the situation from a different point of view, learn to choose for yourself.

Jacqui ConnorJacqui Connor – Executive Brain Coach

Changing lives by coaching ambitious individuals and teams via an integrated four step process, that disrupts complex reality into designed future fulfilled.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

First ask yourself; what exactly do you want to change + how will you know when you have?  Get super specific.  WHY do you want this for yourself?  Then check-in.  Is that true?

  • – What’s a deeper truth of wanting this change?
  • – What do you want to feel/experience as a result?
  • – What else will change in your work/life?

Keep asking until clear and specific.

Jotting down or recording your answers creates opportunity for reflection and refinement.  To discern.

Many studies illustrate how the human mind ‘feels good’ through progress.  Comparison and perceived lack of progress, can send you awry.  Remember, someone else’s methods and motivations weren’t designed for you, and vice versa.

Authentic clarity serves as your north star.  Aligned embodied insight, powers progress.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Our brains are like super computers.  Brilliant.  Yet wires can get crossed into a hot mess.

Not least because much of what’s driving our future is automatic.  Brains are energy efficient by design.  However, ‘auto-pilot’ obstacles can hinder self-improvement.

Sneaky ‘gremlins’ aka saboteurs lurk in the mindless unconscious, with tendency to royally screw us up.

Let’s be clear.  Mindset is complicated!

Helpfully, neuroscience shows how change creates change…

Take Action.

  1. Once your what + why is clear (see previous question), discover your how, through research and personal testing.  Start with 1 x small habit change, tracking changes overtime.  Reflect and refine.
  2. Cut through the noise of your mind to calm your nervous system and reach unconscious ‘gremlins’.  Balance silence with somatics, including soothing or uplifting music.
  3. Engaging a coach, aka helpful ‘mirror’, listener and accountability partner can save time and serve as a highly effective, direct route forward.  I offer a free 90-minute consultation.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

Polarisation is ever-present in the world.  Big complex subjects.  Cancel culture demonstrating agree or be gone.  Oxford University debating society even, not exempt.  Conflict abound.

Life is complicated.  Thinking struggles to keep up.

To mitigate fear & overwhelm, our mindset takes a reductionist stance.  Black – White.  Positive – Negative.  Often wildly swinging, pendulum-like.  Seeking – Avoiding.

But what about the reality of GREY?  What about AND?

And – pausing?

To authentically lean into what is uncomfortable.

To be curious, breathing through real-time felt experiences, to regulate before jumping back into familiar comfort – discomfort.

If your mindset is primarily polarised – Positive v’s Negative.  Good v’s Bad.  Wanted v’s Unwanted. Where lives your peace of mind and true vision?

Instead, courageously welcome ALL parts of you.  The bits you like and those you don’t.  The shamed, hurt, fearful, self-deprecating and grandiose fool.

How can you welcome your wise witness?  Who is curious and kind like a nurturing care-giver.  To re-learn better. To re-know better. To re-grow up!

Welcoming all of you. My friend, this is your key.

It’s a practice beginning with simple intention.  To listen to understand – YOU.

Then, broaden this by welcoming others ‘all’.  Listening to their GREY too.

To create the version of you and vision that you want – really.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Definition Creates Reality. When we understand that how we define things will end up being how we experience them while also knowing that we are at choice about how we define things, then we can experience the immense power and liberation of choosing how we wish to define the world.

Speaking what we would love aloud, we tell our subconscious what to focus on.

Life is very precious, our moments are ours to create. What will you create?

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

There’s a strange acceptance (& addiction) to the idea that we need to ‘fix’ ourselves, that somehow when we are better at this or that, or change this or that, etc then we will be free to live the life we’d love.

This is simply the orientation of ‘not enough-ness’ or ‘incompleteness’. As much as we tend to indulge such thinking, it does nothing to move the needle forward.

Rather, it’s best to acknowledge that mindset (the incompleteness), and rather than focusing on fixing ourselves or attempting to become complete (or enough), we simply turn our attention to what it is that we would love knowing that there are literally no conditions to creating it. We don’t need to be anything in particular in order to create our best life. We can create that life, here and now, as we are.

This shift of attention from the ever-present psychological tension to the creative tension that arises when we can see clearly both where we are currently standing (the reality of our current situation) and what our heart’s are calling us towards (our deepest desires/passions that light up our hearts).

Refocusing on what we would love, moment to moment, creates incredible momentum and capacity to transform ourselves, our lives and the world.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

The first step is simply to acknowledge that you have positive and negative thoughts, this is simply looking at your current state and acknowledging it.

The second step is to focus entirely on your breath, deepening it and slowing it down until you feel yourself more relaxed.

The thirst step is to focus on your heart, specifically, the things that light you up and inspire you. Once you sense them, breathe life into them, give them a moment to exist. This ‘allowing’ is crucial to creating the life you desire.

The fourth step is to imagine stepping into the felt-state of having the very thing you yearn for, experience it as though you already have it. Spend time in that experience of fulfillment.

The fifth step is to maintain that felt-state while looking back at the time when you did not have this thing and notice what was the most obvious action you took which led you to having it? Then take that step without hesitation.

Since life will often only reveal the very next step to us, we will be consistently repeating this creative process.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Identity – knowing who you are. Research has shown that people who have a deep sense of identity are more confident, more competent, more creative, better communicators, and more resilient.  Take time to get to know who you are by exploring and writing stories of events in your life so that no matter what is going on around you, you know you are you.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Distraction Your world is filled with distracting things starting with your phone. Distractions will never stop. The strategy is to create a clear image of your goal whether that is a picture you create, a magazine image that you pin to the wall, or a story that you write.  Once your goals are very clear, no distraction will hold your attention long.

Feelings of inadequacy Every day think of times when you overcame an obstacle no matter how small. Those times, those skills, those situations will remind you of all the capabilities you already have on which to build.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

Using your knowledge of who you are, write a story about a time when you overcame an obstacle to achieve a goal you had set for yourself. Then find someone who knows you and wants the best for you, tell them your story, and ask for their support as you live into your next story.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Mindfulness has been a transformative gift in my life, enabling me to cultivate presence and deep gratitude for every aspect of my existence. This practice has empowered me to navigate challenging situations with grace and resilience. When faced with physical disabilities, my ability to cope and adapt was greatly enhanced through my training as a mindfulness coach. My words of wisdom for anyone seeking to improve their mindset would be to embrace mindfulness, as it holds the key to unlocking inner peace, resilience, and an unwavering sense of gratitude for life’s journey.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

Embarking on a journey of self-improvement and working towards a personal vision for the future can bring about various obstacles and challenges. In the realm of spiritual growth, I have observed that individuals often encounter hurdles when they awaken to the realisation that their experiences are intricately created by their own actions and beliefs. This newfound self-awareness can sometimes trigger self-judgment, imposter syndrome, and a fear of judgment from others. Additionally, individuals may struggle with revealing their true selves, fearing vulnerability and the potential consequences of being visible. It is crucial to acknowledge these challenges and offer support and encouragement to those navigating this path of self-discovery and transformation.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

To achieve a balanced mindset and manifest our envisioned future, it is essential to address the interplay between positive and negative thoughts. Whenever a negative thought arises, we can consciously counter it by questioning its truth and exploring its opposite. By grounding ourselves in the present moment, we can connect with our emotions and release any stagnant energy. This empowers us to shift our focus towards identifying the next step that resonates with our desires and aligns with our greater vision. By consistently flipping the script on negative thoughts, embracing the present, and taking inspired actions, we can effectively navigate the path of self-improvement and create a harmonious mindset conducive to our envisioned future.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Mindset: A series of self-perceptions or beliefs you hold about yourself which determines your behaviour, outlook and mental attitude. Mindfulness is the practice of focusing your attention on the present moment in time, bringing an awareness to your thoughts and feelings. There is a difference between a fixed mindset where you can be trapped by the conditioning of your life’s experiences to date or a growth mindset where you remain open to learn and capitalise on your mistakes and confront your deficiencies. Only by believing in yourself and filling your mind with positive thoughts can you fulfil your vision.

Identify – what do you feel you want to improve. Take time to review what you are proud of having achieved to date. Don’t overlook the small steps as sometimes they were the hardest. With hindsight, what may have prevented you from moving forward? Be honest whether the blockage was out of your control or where you allowed a fixed mindset to override your self-belief. Think of having a blank sheet of paper where you focus on your vision for your future. List what you can do yourself or need help with. Don’t list what you feel you ought to or should improve but only what you want to improve!

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

An obstacle is something that blocks your way and prevents or hinders progress. This could be either material such as lack of funds or nonmaterial factors like self-doubt or being blocked by stereotyping. Whereas a challenge is tackling something new and difficult which requires great effort and determination. If your vision is ahead of the crowd you might find yourself in a majority of one. Pioneers often stand alone. You need to have an inner driver based on self-belief to sustain your conviction that you are on the right path for you, remember that if nothing ventured, nothing is gained.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

When creating your vision, you step outside your established comfort zone by exposing yourself to potential hazards. Risk involves uncertainty and often focuses on the negative. A fixed mindset can trap you in the risk avoidance zone. Carl Jung believed “Our central task in life was to integrate the shadow parts of our self. Here lay the great wisdom to change our lives and the world. The shadow also holds our greatest gifts, our deepest beauty, and treasures whose power we are often terrified by.” Motivation is not a constant state and you have to decide whether you want new growth opportunities.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

During my private coaching sessions with my male clients, the first order of business is for us to  shift their mindset from fixating on negative thoughts to challenging their negative thoughts. I believe that once a person understands the connection between decisions made using facts versus decisions made using assumptions, an essential mindset shift begins to occur that allows someone to visualize a productive outcome and drop them into a space of motivation. My clients quickly learn how to create a mindset challenge by simply asking themselves, what is the best thing that can happen once I exercise my options?

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

I observe individuals who choose to work on self-improvement often become disillusioned when they discover they have been working towards a goal that is not in alignment with their values. The good news is that this becomes helpful to someone when they can implement a mindful practice where they own their reality and accept responsibility to honor their clarity by adjusting their roadmap. I ask my clients to name their top values and share what’s most important about them. Then I make a request for them to take one step further and communicate their values to reinforce their new mindset.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

I’ve found the best way to balance the positive and negative thoughts that individuals face when looking to improve their mindset is to create a vision where it becomes natural to extend compassionate and challenging energy to oneself. When someone learns to give themselves time and patience to achieve a goal while also flexing outside their comfort zone, it becomes easier to enjoy the process, not just the act of crossing the finish line.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

The secret is to read, read, and then read some more. To learn the millionaire mindset, I grabbed and read or listened to every book on the subject that I could find. My favorite, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey, I have read over 15 times. I believe repetition is the mother of learning. I read until it stuck. As a result, I have made millions and created multiple businesses. Find books by people that already have the millionaire mindset and read them over and over again. Imitate successful people.

It is also important to surround yourself with successful people who already have the mindset you are looking for. I joined club after club until I found the one best suited for me.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

The biggest challenge in life will be the naysayers in your life. They will tell you to put down the books, you don’t have a chance, or that can’t be done. The problem is that these naysayers can be people you love, trust, and respect. It can devastating if you don’t ignore them. Whenever you hear it “can’t” be done, hear it “can” be done. Screw the naysayers. Do it anyway. And don’t be afraid to fail. Everybody fails. Yes, everybody. It is a stepping stone to success. Michael Jordan missed 9000 shots in the NBA. He failed 9000 times. Would you consider him a failure? No. A person who gets knocked down and stays down is a loser. The person who gets knocked down and gets back up, is a winner.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

I use both positive and negative thoughts to motivate myself. It is the fear that the negative thoughts produce that propels me forward. As a rule, you will do 3 times as much to avoid pain as you will to gain pleasure. However, you must be careful when using fear and pain as motivators because it can lead to blaming. It’s not my fault. I can’t do anything about it. This leads to stagnation and complacency. Be cautious. Focus on the solution to the fear and pain and set your goals to get you there.

I keep a list of positive and negative results for all of my goals. This allows me to use pleasure and pain as motivators simultaneously.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Over the years I have learned two valuable tips which I wholeheartedly recommend to follow for improving mindset. It’s wise to seek the support of a coach, online program or both to support this area of growth but ensure that whichever you decide to go with that the person or program resonates with you. So important. Another strategy is watching videos of people in this industry sharing tips for a growth mindset. If you’re a reader there are some great books out there on audio or paperback to get you started. I have books and videos I still refer to.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

You will meet resistance along the way from yourself and others, that’s a fact. Some obstacles are real including life events that cause setbacks others are imagined or made-up excuses that will certainly hold you back. It’s important to remember that the comfort zone which is likely to be where you are now is an easier option than taking a step forward towards the vision you hold dear. When faced with resistance, remember your BIG why. Why do you want the vision? What excites you about it? Remembering your why is the single thing that will really power you on.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

Don’t overthink things that are crucial. The formula I have adopted that works is firstly to keep the mind calm through meditation. I spend at least 30 minutes every morning meditating to begin the day in the right frame of mind before setting any intentions towards my vision. The next step is to really focus on the vision itself. Spend at least 1-2 minutes daily speaking out loud and feeling your vision for example. I feel energised, confident and healthy walking 2 miles 3 times a week. Say it with enthusiasm and passion, energising the emotion of the vision.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Improving your mindset starts with the will to do so then acknowledging your WHY?  Developing a growth mindset (Dr Carole Dweck) is critical to your positive development and success.  I am known for my ‘I CAN’ mindset.  This strength enables me to attempt anything I want to do, such as climb  5000 meter Mount Mélange, Malawi; complete my degree even when I was homeless with four children; and start my own publishing house at the age of 62.

There is nothing more motivating when someone tells you that you CAN’T do something.  I say, “I Can, I will, watch me!”  You can try it too if you dare!

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

On our evolution of self-improvement, it is wise to embrace failure. You will encounter disappointment, procrastination, imposter syndrome, self-doubt and fear. I make these traits and challenges my friend.  Why?  Because I know that failure and challenges are our best teachers.  Staying in your comfort zone will keep you being mediocre. Once you know that developing a solution-focused outlook, you will say, “Bring it on!” Why? Because the feeling of overcoming your challenges, mastering your mind and opening up the doors of possibility, adds fire to your belly to take action towards your bright vision for your future.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

I like to use a technique I call, “Plot Twist.”  You are the author of your own story and you can create your outcome.  So when a negative thought enters my mind I shout, “Plot Twist!”  Next I envision a train appearing from the right.  I put the negative thought onto the train and say, “You do not serve my highest good, goodbye!  At that point the doors close firmly and the train speeds off into a dark tunnel to the left.  Now another train appears and the doors open.  I reframe the negative thought into a positive one and the thought and myself board the train.  The doors close and we swiftly move into a tunnel of light.  Now we have a new neural pathway to strengthen every time we have that same negative thought enter our minds.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Any improvement begins with awareness. Without awareness that something needs to change, it’s easy to stay in a mindset that is set in particular beliefs or attitudes that have mostly come from others.

Once you have new awareness, then acceptance is the next step to offset that old programming. Accepting allows for the flexibility to open your mind to new beliefs and attitudes that are more in alignment with who you now choose to be.

Choosing to express gratitude daily increases acceptance, helps you let go of the past, and brings you more energy for life. It’s a powerful practice!

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

The energy of abuse, whether physical, verbal, emotional, spiritual, or financial, clings to your energy body and draws like energy and experiences to you until it’s cleared.

This is a very subtle and insidious obstacle.

Then there are the voices of the past whispering negatives inside your mind. It’s easy to think those thoughts are yours, instead of recognizing them as someone else’s beliefs.

Both these affect your energy field, body, and mind.

Recognizing abusive energy residue and others’ negativity, and then clearing both brings clarity to your vision for the future.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

Accessing the body-mind connection through movement brings awareness, clears negative energy, and increases the flexibility and functioning of the mind. It can be as simple as observing the rhythm of your breath, taking a walk, doing vigorous exercise, or dancing.

Negative thoughts can stop the flow of vital life force energy and paralyze your vision.

Movement gets your energy flowing which increases positive thoughts and the problem-solving abilities of the mind.

Taking gratitude walks is an effective practice. They combine gratitude with physical activity and breathing to boost your mental capacity for creating your vision.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

Mindset is a combination of what we have experienced in the past, our upbringing and our perceptions and reactions to our current circumstances. You may currently feel that your mindset is not good from a mental health perspective or that you are not feeling confident about your life or work. It could be that your mindset is negative and not helping you to feel good about the future.

The key tips I would give you is to start with one small thing you can change right now. Identify something small such as reframing a thought into a more positive statement, using a simple empowering affirmation or deciding on one action step you will take to improve how you currently feel. Admitting mental health struggles to someone close or to a trained professional is also key if you are struggling to focus and move forward.

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

There are many obstacles that can crop up when you start working on yourself and your vision. The first thing is that you may discover aspects of yourself that you don’t like. Coming face to face with your flaws and mistakes is sometimes daunting and needs to be done with self-compassion, kindness and forgiveness. Remind yourself that we are all on a learning journey and discuss your fears and discoveries with a coach. You may want to enlist help if you are struggling to overcome lack of confidence and self-doubt.

As we seek to improve ourselves and clarity our vision, those around us may unwittingly try to draw us back to the old comfortable version of us that they are used to. Moving into a new version of yourself may mean setting firmer boundaries, becoming closer to people who share your values and distancing those that don’t; it could mean that you need to break free of old habits such as procrastination and comparison.

When you move forward towards a clearer vision you may doubt your ability to achieve it. Remember that you have a unique legacy and that those that will benefit from your influence are waiting for you to achieve it!

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

There are many methods to use in order to foster more balanced thinking such as Meditation, Coaching, CBT, Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), Journalling, Affirmations…and many other ways to help you build a more nourishing mindset that serves you in a positive way.

Using visualisation is a powerful technique to create new neural pathways and help the brain explore and experience – the brain then thinks that the vision has already been achieved. Regular visualisation of your vision helps you clarify what’s important to you as well as the steps you need to take to get there.

Putting thoughts on paper helps balance the mind as it allows the expression of our vision in a more profound way than simply thinking about it. There is something about writing it out that propels our brains to greater clarity and action. Journalling on a regular basis is also a great way of balancing how we feel and acknowledging both our negative and positive thoughts.

There will be times when we feel sadness, pain and anger. Acknowledging these thoughts is important rather than forcing yourself to be superficially positive. A healthy habit of accepting ourselves but turning unhealthy thoughts into more constructive, empowering ones will be beneficial for your success and mental health in the long run.

Q: What words of wisdom do you have for anyone wanting to improve their mindset?

It all starts with the vision of what you really, really want and the decision to improve one’s mindset to achieve it. Napoleon Hill says,  “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past or how lofty your aims and hopes may be.”

Q: What obstacles or challenges might individuals face when working on self-improvement and towards their vision for the future?

The two emotions that affect us the most are love and fear.  Staying in the emotional energy of love opens pathways for us to improve ourselves and attain the goals we desire. That said, staying in the positive energy of love can be challenging!  Our minds automatically tend toward the negative as a survival response and we are drawn to the familiar. When we allow that negative energy of fear to dominate our feelings, it becomes an obstacle to achieving our vision for the future.

Q: What is the best way to balance individuals’ positive and negative thoughts when looking to improve their mindset and create their vision using the mind?

There are many strategies to balance the positive and negative thoughts we face when we look to improve our mindset and create our vision.  One of the best ways is to establish a “morning routine”.  This practice can include meditation, writing a gratitude list, repeating positive affirmations, reading/writing a motivational text, and some movement.  Starting your day with a morning routine makes all the difference and sets a positive tone for your day.
